I Somehow Hate… A lot of things… and probably you. Yes, I hate you too.

Facebook Event Spam

Facebook + Events = HATRED!

Sums up this article quite nicely!

Facebook, It's a beautiful thing really. Started back in February 2004 by some university student it has propelled itself into the World's most frequented #1 Social site. Everyone from your neighbour to your boss have either heard of, if not used Facebook -- and yes even your dear great grandma who pretended to be senile just to get some more FarmVille time. But there's one type of species of human that I detest, more so than your FarmVille hacking Grandma. Haven't

guessed which yet? It's Event Promoters...

Event Promoters are sort of like the Scum of the Earth but they so happen to be armed with a computer and a very large ego, they know what's hot (even if we think otherwise) and they know Facebook is popular. They even know that some people who might not even know them will accept their friendinvite request (since they are Friend Whores and want to get a bigger e-penis or more appealing e-vagina -- sometimes both!)  and because of this, little does the unwitting (or knitwit) Friend Whore know that by clicking Yes --and violating Facebook's initial goal and perhaps even some Terms of Usage policy-- that they have opened up a doorway for spam and the inevitable requests to become Fans of some band or DJ you never even heard of let alone happen to frequent the country you reside in. Oh yes, Welcome to Eventbook!

I cannot possibly count the amount of event invitiations I receive daily and the amount of times I have to click Delete on my Email Account because of said Invites. Sure you could just turn the email notifications off, but that defeats the purpose of what the notifications are for, and that is to be notified. For example, one of my friends might have a birthday coming up, and I'd wanna know about it, not that I intend on going (because she so happens to piss me right off and I can't stand her annoying voice) but that's besides the point. The point is, These event promoters are ruining my enjoyment by force feeding me these invites to events that either don't interest me, or don't apply to me... The amount of "Ladies Night Only" and "Under 18's" I get is astonishing, and unfortunately (or fortunately from my perspective) I don't meet the criteria. Not to say that if someone were to invite me to a "Man's Night Only" id be clicking "Accept" any quicker -- I hate weiner fests period and for someone to invite me to one just proves to me that said person deserves even more hate and perhaps closer scrutiny, it could probably explain why he keeps asking to sleep over at my house and keeps dropping coins in front of me so he can politely ask me to pick it up, "Slowly".

Unfortunately, I believe Facebook deems this problem to be a shot-yourself-in-the foot scenario, "You added that moron, deal with it". But it still leaves the question. "Why can I block Application invitations and Not Event/Fan Page invites?" and until that question is answered by the Great Facebook Developer(s) (who I can assure you, is probably not the uni kid who made it, because hey -- If I made the money he made, I'd be too busy worrying about which colour Ferrari to drive tomorrow) I will keep on hating Event Promoters.

and on that note, No. I don't want to become a fan of becoming a fan -- That's just taking it a little to far, and you've certainly made yourself look like an idiot now, haven't you?
